English

  • Academic English, Total Credits: 1
    • Literature: Focuses on British literature from Beowulf to contemporary British literature. Novels include, Frankenstein, The Count of Monte Cristo, and A Tale of Two Cities.
    • Vocabulary: 400 cumulative words are taught and tested.
    • Writing: Assignments are varied with many assignments based on literature stories or novels read throughout the year.
    • Grammar: Some grammar is taught.
  • Honors English, Total Credits: 1
    • Honors 11 moves at an accelerated pace through a British Literature curriculum. In this course we read at least eight novels. We also study the short story extensively.
    • Writing: There is an extensive amount of writing on many levels. Writing includes a 10 page short story, a novel project for each novel covered, MLA and APA research papers with an emphasis on answering essay questions.

Social Studies

  • Total Credits: 1
  • Study of World History from the 1600's through the present
  • Topics Covered:
    • The Enlightened World: Pursuit of power in Europe, Age of Reason, American & French Revolutions
    • The European World: Industrialization, European society and expansion
    • The Modern World: The Great War, discontentment and experimentation, Second World War, Cold War era
    • Present day & current events

Math

  • Academic Pre-Calculus, Total Credits: 1
    • Students will learn the basics of geometry including vocabulary and theorems, completing formal proofs, relationships between figures ranging from one to three dimensional space. Polygons will be used throughout the course with an emphasis on triangles, quadrilaterals, and circles. In addition, students will periodically review basic algebra concepts to maintain skills from previous years.

Fine Art

  • Band
  • Choir: Grades 9-12 (Elective) - Choir is a performance group that allows each singer to experience singing within a group as well as singing their own voice part. Training is given so that the choir learns to sing correctly, using proper breath support, diction, posture and dynamics. The choir will sing in multiple styles and languages.
